Tandberg Data, a provider of data protection offerings, has unveiled AccuVault Series, a family of intelligent network-attached disk appliances, that enhances the way small and medium businesses store, manage and protect their data.

The company said that the new AccuVault is a data protection offering, which comes in a single pre-architected appliance that requires minimal time and expertise to deploy and manage.

The new offering is built on the Windows operating system, and is preconfigured with the company’s new AccuGuard Enterprise data protection software, which features source-based deduplication that reduces redundancy inside and across files prior to transmission over the LAN.

In addition, AccuGuard Enterprise software globally deduplicates across all clients for maximum bandwidth and storage efficiencies, and provides near-continuous data protection.

The AccuVault Data Protection Appliance comes in three models, which include a desktop with an integrated RDX QuikStor, and two rackmount models, Tandberg Data said.

Tandberg Data marketing vice president Marije Stijnen said the AccuVault is the next step in the evolution of data protection for SMBs.

"This integrated backup and archiving appliance provides enterprise-class features such as source-based global deduplication, combined with ease of use and simple installation with agentless deployment," Stijnen said.

"The integration with the company’s RDX QuikStor provides offline and offsite storage, further increasing the levels of data protection."

The company said that the AccuVault Data Protection Appliance will be available in September 2010 through its established channel of distributor and reseller partners.
