Tableau, a provider of analytics and data visualisation software, has unveiled Tableau 5.2, which offers native connectivity to Microsoft’s new in-memory engine, PowerPivot and SharePoint 2010.

According to Tableau, the connectivity with SharePoint 2010/PowerPivot offers new capabilities that leverage PowerPivot and SharePoint 2010. It allows users to create geographic maps of their data and drill from Tableau to PowerPivot data sources for browser-based analytics and embed the same data visualisations in the SharePoint 2010 portal.

In addition, the new offering allows users to connect to virtually any data source and create interactive dashboards, reports and visualisations. Users can also share their work using a browser to interact with and gain from live analytics. User can also access DAX calculations with Tableau or create new calculations directly in Tableau.

Dan Jewett, vice president of product management at Tableau, said: “Tableau’s integration with PowerPivot and SharePoint 2010 continues to deliver on our mission to help people see and understand their data no matter what the format.

“Tableau 5.2 will help SharePoint 2010/PowerPivot developers and administrators deliver self-service business intelligence capabilities including browser-based analytics, powerful dashboards and Tableau’s industry leading data visualisation.”

The Tableau 5.2 release is due out in mid-June.
