Symantec has unveiled enhancements to Veritas Storage Foundation, Veritas Cluster File System and Veritas Cluster Server, a storage management offering for Unix, Linux and Windows environments.
The company claims that the new enhancements will enable organisations to capitalise on new storage technology, such as solid state drives (SSDs) and thin provisioning. Near instantaneous recovery of applications is possible with Veritas Cluster File System through tight integration with Oracle, Sybase and IBM DB2, allowing for failover of structured information and near linear scalability.
According to Symantec, the Storage Foundation automatically optimises storage environments, including those that contain both SSDs and traditional disk storage. Veritas File System enables enhanced storage utilisation by integrating with the thin provisioning ecosystem. Storage Foundation discovers thin provisioned storage across vendors, while enabling automated and online storage reclamation allowing organisations to stay thin over time.
Storage Foundation’s SmartMove technology together with Veritas Volume Replicator allows enterprises to migrate from thick to thin storage over any distance. Only the storage that is being used by the application is moved, making data and array migrations efficient even across wide areas, the company said.
The company said that the new release adds enhancements to Cluster File System and Cluster Server, providing improved availability of Oracle environments. Cluster File System and Cluster Server provide concurrent access to information and require only the application to be moved.
In addition, by increasing the utilisation of efficient storage and facilitating the decommission of the obsolete and power demanding storage, Storage Foundation can eliminate electricity (KWh). The company also offers Storage Assessment Service to help organisations address their storage challenges.
