Symantec has unveiled two new offerings that provides customers the ability to virtualise their business applications and minimise storage costs on the VMware platform.

The company said that its ApplicationHA, based on Veritas Cluster Server technology, will provide high availability for business applications through application level visibility and control in VMware environments.

The offering also monitors applications’ health status, detects failures in the virtual machine and restarts failed applications.

Symantec said that software-based storage management offering for VMware virtual machines VirtualStore, provides provisioning of servers and virtual desktops, efficient cloning and accelerated boot up of virtual machines. It also offers advanced storage optimisation capabilities for VMware environments.

Both ApplicationHA and VirtualStore are integrated with VMware management tools such as VMware vCenter Server.

Anil Chakravarthy, senior vice president of storage and availability management group at Symantec, said: "With VirtualStore, we are helping organisations deal with the storage challenges that come from scaling virtual environments with a cost-effective solution that is tightly integrated with VMware vCenter Server."
