Symantec, a provider of security, storage and systems management offerings, has enhanced its data protection offering Backup Exec 2010, which through its improved Wizards reduces installation time, has new in-product guidance for optimal Windows data recovery, and provides additional platform support.

The company said the the new enhanced data protection offering features include faster installation, new platform support which provides reliable recovery for Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Exchange 2010 SP1, SQL 2008 R2, Mac OS X 10.6, VMware vSphere 4.1 and enhanced NDMP support.

The enhanced Backup Exec 2010 also has improved recovery times feature which alerts customers to gaps in their backup practices for SharePoint, SQL Exchange, Hyper-V, and Active Directory environments, the company said.

In addition, the offering provides improved user experience through integrated RSS reader and in-product renewal assistant which supplies critical and timely product updates.

Symantec vice president of Product Management of Backup Exec Amit Walia said that with Backup Exec 2010, Symantec improved its virtual machine protection and added fully integrated data deduplication and archiving technologies.

"With the latest release, we are furthering our strategy by reducing the install time by an estimated 20% reducing the time it takes to recover business critical data and adding unique new features to simplify the Backup Exec management experience saving IT time and resources," Walia said.
