StorageCraft Technology has released ShadowProtect 3.5, a new version of disk-based backup, disaster recovery and system migration software for Windows servers, desktops and laptops.

According to StorageCraft, the new version 3.5 features include: enhanced e-mail notification improving client administration services; improved management over backup commencement; improved management of hardware independent restore features; and improved boot configuration tool.

In addition, the ignore read failures feature has the ability to backup failing hard drives, so IT administrators can salvage as much data as possible. This new feature allows users to continue a backup even if some areas of the hard drive can no longer be read, the company said.

StorageCraft said that IT administrators can set up new ShadowProtect to notify them when a hard drive begins to fail so that they will be able to take a backup and recover as much data as possible.

The company said that the new version 3.5 also has several maintenance updates which are incorporated into all editions, including ShadowProtect Server Edition, ShadowProtect Desktop Edition, ShadowProtect Small Business Server Edition, and ShadowProtect IT Edition.

Brandon Nordquist, vice president of product management at StorageCraft, said: “ShadowProtect 3.5 allows you to back up as many sectors on a failing hard drive as you can. You may not be able to save all of the data on the drive, but you can recover as much as possible and save the data to new hardware.”
