According to the company, the Virtualized Storage Migration Solution enables enterprises to migrate data without interrupting other applications and operations. SGI said it allows enterprises to select the storage device that suits their needs unlike the other data migration applications that mean customers are locked in to specific vendor platforms. It moves volume migration, advanced data services, and storage management onto storage area networks (SANs).

The application uses LSI Storeage virtualization technology, which allows users to migrate data by indicating source volume and destination storage pool. SGI said rollback capabilities enable IT administrators to recover data from any migration.

Ravi Pendekanti, senior director of worldwide solutions marketing at SGI said the product offers the flexibility and cost advantages of open standards-based computing. Now organizations can move their data to any new storage device without impacting operations and without risking the integrity of their enterprise data, he said.

SGI said the product enables enterprises to access advanced data services through Tier 1 storage platforms. Services including replication, mirroring, disaster-recovery, and rapid application recovery can be managed through the SAN-based LSI Storeage software.
