SGI expands InfiniteStorage Total Control Suite

Allows data center manager to control their data environments

By CBR Staff Writer

SGI has launched SGI InfiniteStorage NAS and SGI LiveSAN, two new storage offerings within the SGI InfiniteStorage Total Control suite, a set of modular software and hardware tools that storage customisation using standard components. The products will allow data center managers total control over their data environments.

The company said that its InfiniteStorage Total Control suite includes offerings ranging from LiveSAN for block-level virtualisation, global namespace offering with InfiniteStorage NAS (network-attached storage), Data Migration Facility (DMF) for tier virtualisation, and LiveArc, a digital asset management framework.

InfiniteStorage NAS is a NAS hardware platform that has a feature set for virtualisation, data management and data protection. According to SGI, its cluster namespace capability enables scalability and compatibility in heterogeneous environments, dynamic read caching and dynamic data rebalancing.

The company claimed that InfiniteStorage NAS is designed for maximum scalability with external shared storage features for compatibility with legacy systems and maximum control to administrators in shared environments.

SGI added that LiveSAN is a block-level storage virtualisation suite that enables complete control over any SAN environment. It virtualises all of the available blocks of existing storage across the enterprise to utilise all available space and lessen stranded storage.

Additional benefits of LiveSAN include Heterogeneous data services, including volume management, snapshot, replication, migration and mirroring; multi-level data protection and rapid recovery from failures; and non-disruptive thin provisioning.

Jose Reinoso, vice president for storage products at SGI, said: “With increasing storage demands, data center managers are looking for storage solutions that enable them to tailor their data environment to the specific needs of their users without being locked into expensive, one-size-fits-all scenarios.

LiveSAN and InfiniteStorage NAS specifically make storage ecosystems highly tunable to increase utilisation and decrease costs.”
