Quest Software has released the new addition to the vRanger family of virtual data protection offerings Quest vRanger 5.2 that provides backup and recovery capabilities for VMware infrastructure.
The company claims that the new version simplifies and accelerates VMware backup, replication and recovery while reducing storage requirements, and providing reliability and scalability needed to ensure high-performance data protection in virtual environment.
The new enhancements to vRanger offers full support to VMware ESX and ESXi to provide a wide range of backup and recovery capabilities for VMware virtual infrastructure, as well as support VMware HotAdd for faster speeds when making network backups of ESXi.
vRanger now also features the ability to run as a low-resource usage virtual appliance when replicating ESXi virtual machine data, and continues to deliver a host of capabilities that enable dramatically increased VM backup, replication and recovery speeds.
vRanger features active block mapping technology and support of VMware’s changed block tracking vStorage API, and parallel job execution capabilities for enabling complete backup and recovery operations in less time.
vRanger offers an integrated catalog that enables administrators to locate VM and individual file backups fast, unlike competing products, which require purchase of third-party indexing software.
Quest Software vice president of data protection product management John Maxwell said in today’s business environment, where IT is being asked to do more with less, administrators no longer have time for the laborious, manual processes most VMware backup and recovery tools require.
"That’s why vRanger was purpose-built to provide users with an unparalleled combination of speed, simplicity and ease of use," Maxwell said.
