Quest Software has certified vRanger, its VMware backup software, on Quantum DXi systems.
Quest said that the use of vRanger with Quantum DXi-Series deduplication appliances "significantly enhances" backup and recovery performance, while "dramatically" reducing storage requirements.
The tool reduces disk storage space needed for backup files by leveraging Quest patented Active Block Mapping with the patented variable-length deduplication included in Quantum DXi systems.
vRanger quickly scans block maps to back up only the changed blocks. This significantly reduces job windows and the amount of data transferred to a Quantum DXi deduplication appliance, said the company.
The use of vRanger with Quantum DXi-Series provides customers with a cost-effective and efficient VMware backup tool, said the company.
Quest added that Quantum DXi systems allow vRanger customers to automate backups across multiple sites and devices with significantly less network traffic over the WAN.
Quest Software data protection product management vice-president John Maxwell said the growth in VMware virtual environments plus the exploding volume of corporate data present a significant challenge to maintaining high availability and disaster recovery processes, especially on reduced budgets.
"Certifying our market-leading VMware backup software on Quantum DXi systems allows Quest to offer a holistic VMware data protection strategy designed to meet today’s most pressing customer challenges," said Maxwell.
