Qnap Systems has introduced NAS management software version 3.1, an upgrade that supports Turbo NAS line-up of NAS servers.

Qnap said that the new version, embedded as firmware, comes with new features including virtual disk support (up to 8 virtual disks via iSCSI expansion over the network), and RAID Recovery that is said to recover a degraded or inactive RAID 1, 5, or 6 due to unintentional removal of drives.

Also, according to the company, network discovery services are enhanced with new Bonjour support offering zero-configuration networking for HTTP, SAMBA, FTP, AFP, and SSH based networks, and UPnP support.

Other features of the new version include EXT4 support for large volumes and file sizes, SNMP support, and bitmap support for rebuilding of RAID volume after a crash, or adding/removing a drive.

The new version comes with an AJAX based user interface that allows NAS configuration via a web interface, allowing users to install the NAS server on the network.

The company also says that the new user interface supports Microsoft Internet Explorer, Safari (version 3 & 4), FireFox 3, and Google’s Chrome web browsers. Administrators have an option to choose from three different colour themes, 15 languages, and could enable a Qnap RSS feed that would keep them up to date with product news and updates.
