PLX Technology has unveiled a new dual-storage controller that bridges two SATA hard disks with eSATA, FireWire800 or USB2.0 serial interfaces. It also offers on-the-fly encryption/decryption to protect data, and allows OEMs to provide differentiation in the consumer direct attached storage (DAS) market through features and software offerings.
According to PLX, the new dual-storage controller OXUFS946DSE is a quad-interface-to-dual-SATA storage controller with integrated hardware RAID and encryption engines, bridging between eSATA, 1394 or USB 2.0 interfaces, and enables a range of external secure storage applications, including dual-disk RAID configurations.
The company said that the new dual-storage controller allows designers to create products with a minimal number of external components. It also comes with an integrated a high-throughput cipher engine that provides real-time encryption and decryption capabilities to the advanced encryption standard (AES) in the hardware.
In addition, the new controller has encryption capabilities to ensure data protection against theft or loss of personal storage devices. It is also complemented by a host application to define and manage user authentication, and the mounting/unmounting of the external drive, the company added.
