Pentaho, an open source provider of business intelligence products, has acquired technology assets from LucidEra. Pentaho said that the new technology will be packaged as ‘Pentaho Analyzer Enterprise Edition’ and extends its capabilities to enable business users to analyse information, while expanding its SaaS product portfolio.

The company said that the acquired technology, developed originally by LucidEra and known as ‘Clearview’ provides web-based interactive analytical reporting and analysis to let non-technical business users understand business information.

The acquired technology will be delivered as the front-end interface of the Pentaho Analysis product line for on-premises and cloud-based deployment, and via Pentaho partners who deliver SaaS applications.

The company claims that Clearview was designed with a requirement to make business users successful with BI, without formal training or the assistance from developers or IT staff traditionally required with both open- and closed-source BI tools.

Richard Daley, CEO of Pentaho, said: “The economic challenges of the last year have only accelerated market adoption of Pentaho’s proven commercial open source BI suite. We’ve executed well and that has enabled us to make strategic investments that expand our market opportunity No other player can address the full spectrum of BI requirements for on-premises, SaaS and Cloud BI deployments with the low TCO of commercial open source like Pentaho.”

Pentaho said that it will include the new capabilities for all existing and new subscription customers for both its Analysis Enterprise Edition product and BI Suite Enterprise Edition without any change in pricing.
