Opera Software, a developer of cross-platform web browser technology, has selected Dell to unify its datacentre technologies and deploy an efficient storage offering to manage the data.
Opera said that it has deployed more than 700 Dell PowerEdge blade servers, 43 Dell PowerEdge blade enclosures and five Dell EqualLogic PS Series storage arrays, which has reduced the company’s power consumption by 35% and increased performance by 33%.
The company has chosen Dell for its M1000e blade enclosures and PowerEdge M610 blade servers with low voltage processors to deliver enhanced performance per watt while supporting products, services and features such as Opera Mini, Opera Turbo, Opera Link, Opera Widgets and Opera Unite.
According to Opera, the M610 will enable it to complete multiple tasks simultaneously and scale up performance and memory to meet future business requirements.
Dell also simplifies server deployment for Opera by delivering hardware locally to each of Opera’s IT sites. In addition, Opera has standardised its entire storage infrastructure on the Dell EqualLogic PS6000 Series of iSCSI storage arrays. The company can now manage its entire storage estate from Oslo headquarters.
Rikard Gillemyr, EVP Engineering of Opera Software, said: "Users of Opera browsers expect the world’s fastest browsing experience across device, platform or operating system. In order to continue to successfully deliver this level of service, we rely on our IT infrastructure to support our business by providing top performance and reliability.
"It was clear from the outset that Dell understood our pain points as a growing company and would be able to simplify our IT environment while at the same time helping us to operate more efficiently through a converged management of data, applications and core IT systems. With Dell, we expect to make significant cost savings across our infrastructure, and we are looking forward to further collaboration as our business expands."
