Microsoft has approved a new high speed 16G storage solution as good enough to support its Exchange server.

Infortrend’s EonStor DS G7i is said to be the world’s first 16G FC storage, and its makers claim it can support up to 9,000 mailboxes on a single system, and up to 30,000 by expansion enclosures.

Having passed the Microsoft Exchange 2013 Solution Reviewed Programme, Infortrend claims its product provides high performance and low latency.

Thomas Kao, senior director of product planning, said: "To have our new 16G FC models verified by Microsoft Exchange 2013 Solution Reviewed Programme provides customers with the confidence that Infortrend’s storage features and technologies are supporting Microsoft Exchange Server 2013."

Josie Wang, Microsoft’s director of partner business and development, added: "Despite the growth of instant messaging and other communication methods, email is still the number one choice for enterprises and organisations require a dependable email solution at their core.

"In passing the ESRP 2013, Infortrend’s new 16G Fibre Channel solutions have proven themselves an ideal solution for the latest Microsoft-based email environments."
