NetApp has released new tools, which it claims to help customers deploy and manage virtual desktops through VMware View 4. VMware and NetApp storage together enable customers to provision virtual desktops and storage.
The company said that customers can provision VMware virtual machines and streamline their business with Rapid Cloning Utility version 3.0 that provides support for VMware View and VMware vSphere. The Rapid Cloning Utility is a VMware vCenter server plug-in that allows customers to replicate a single image hundreds of times in minutes while using almost no additional storage capacity.
In addition, it complements VMware Composer linked clones with cloning capabilities for individual desktops and manual desktop pools. The VMware View customers can automate and reduce administrative requirements for virtual desktops.
Patrick Rogers, vice president of solutions and alliances at NetApp, said: NetApp’s strong history of collaboration with VMware continues with the launch of VMware View 4. The advanced efficiency and reliability of NetApp storage, combined with the control and flexibility of VMware View, allows us to jointly deliver an optimum solution that positively affects virtual desktop ROI for our customers.
Patrick Harr, vice president of enterprise desktop marketing at VMware, said: VMware View, combined with NetApp storage, reduces the cost of the solution significantly and brings enhanced efficiency and flexibility to help customers deploy desktops as a managed service.
