An EMC company Mozy has introduced enhanced features to MozyPro server backup service.

Mozy said that the enhancements are aimed to make the backup service faster and easier to back up business servers to its data centres.

The online backup service provider said the file scanning capacity for larger data sets has been improved by 100x. In addition, the company has also introduced the Mozy Data Shuttle, a new service that transfers an encrypted copy of big data sets from customers to Mozy’s data centres.

The Data Shuttle is designed for MozyPro customers backing up servers whose initial upload exceeds 100GB of data, said the company. The offering provides an easy, fast and secure transport for businesses to back up terabytes of data and loads of files – with the initial upload happening via a Mozy-provided Iomega 2 terabyte hard drive, the company added.

The enhanced features are designed for Small medium and larger businesses to back up servers to Mozy’s and to off-site data centres, said the company. The MozyPro enhancements decrease the time to complete the initial backup and incrementally backs up only new or changed portions of files, reducing the time to backup and access the data, Mozy said.

Mozy’s server backup features include: easy account management; custom backup times and configurations; browse and search; SQL, Exchange, SharePoint and network drive support; and Real-time data restores.

For additional security the MozyPro software double-encrypts the dataset with a Mozy-generated key or a personal key, and a one-time-use Data Shuttle key. After the data ingestion to its data centres, Mozy wipes the device according to military-grade encryption standards, said the company.

Mozy general manager Russ Stockdale said the company’s goal for MozyPro has always been to make it faster, easier and more secure for businesses.
