Mobile, Social and Big Data are expected to drive Actionable Analytics in 2013 and beyond, according to a report from Gartner.
Only 30% of users in an organisation implement CIO-sponsored analytics tools even though Business intelligence (BI) and analytics are a top CIO investment priority, the report said.
The report reveals that the rise in real-time data volume and reduced decision making times are driving firms to adopt real-time operational intelligence systems that enhance effectiveness of supervisors and operations staff.
Additionally, real-time operational intelligence systems advise organisations to offload event data capture, filtering, mathematical calculations and pattern detection to enhance situation awareness to business people.
Gartner research vice president, Rita Sallam, said that a large enterprise makes millions of decisions every day.
"The challenge is that companies have far more data than people have time, and the amount of data that is generated every minute keeps increasing," Sallam said.
"In the face of accelerating business processes and a myriad of distractions, real-time operational intelligence systems are moving from ‘nice to have’ to ‘must have for survival.
"The more pervasively analytics can be deployed to business users, customers and consumers, the greater the impact will be in real time on business activities, competitiveness, innovation and productivity."
The report advised analytics and business intelligence (BI) professionals to make analytics more transparent to their users in a bid to assist making analytics more actionable and pervasively adopted.
Gartner revealed that increasing competition, cost, and regulatory pressures will trigger business leaders to implement more prescriptive analytics that improve business decisions while cutting personnel costs.
