MapR Technologies has been awarded a patent for the Converged Data Platform.
The big data company revealed that it had been awarded the patent which covers the key technologies that underpin components of the MapR Converged Data Platform, including the multi-modal NoSQL database and the global streaming engine.
The patent, US9,501,483, which was granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, covers key components such as protection for file, table and stream processing for technology advances such as convergence, fast processing with low latency, high availability and Strong consistency, and security.
The company said that these inventions help the Converged Data Platform to deliver a “core architecture for data-centric businesses,” along key areas such as enterprise-grade reliability, global, real-time, continuous data processing, continuous innovation and a foundation for converged analytics.
The continuous innovation element is a patented core with standard APIs that is designed to get the most out of Apache Hadoop and Spark.

The award of this patent marks the second granted to MapR, following a December 2015 award. This marks progress for both the company and open source big data on the whole, which has seen a sparse number of patents in the past.
