LinkedIn launches endorsement feature to validate expertise

The professional social network has launched a feature that allows a user to recommend a connection's listed on their profile.

The new feature will show recommended endorsements on the top of a connection’s profile.

"On LinkedIn, you have many smart, talented, and skilled professional connections," said the company in a statement. "We are introducing Endorsements, a new feature that makes it easier to recognize them for their skills and expertise."

A connection can also recommend another LinkedIn’s user for a skill they haven’t listed on their profile.

Instead of the traditional LinkedIn recommendation where a connection writes a description, the endorsement feature allows a connection to recommend someone with one click.

Whenever someone is endorsed they will be notified by emails and on LinkedIn. Members can also check the Skills and Expertise section on their profile page to see the profiles of people who have recommended them.

The Endorsement feature is currently available in the United States, New Zealand, Australia and India. The feature will roll out to all members in all languages over the next few weeks.

LinkedIn has had an impressive year with the company’s performance shattering analyst expectations.

LinkedIn reported that the company was up 89% in revenue during its second quarter with $228.2m compared to $121m in the second quarter of 2011.

Their second quarter performance outdid their predicted Q2 revenues of $210m-$215m.

"Our ongoing investment in product innovation drove healthy engagement as measured by unique visiting members and member page views, and our three revenue streams all experienced significant growth," said LinkedIn in a statement.
