Lack of investment in real-time analytics threatens UK agility

UK firms are lagging behind their European counterparts in their use of real-time analysis to aid making agile business decisions.

By Janine Milne

The research, commissioned by Progress Software, revealed that 70% of UK businesses intend to keep on using business intelligence (BI) to analyse business data and ignore the competitive advantages of real-time data analysis through Complex Event Processing (CEP).

“Relying on BI means that businesses are not reacting fast enough to gain business advantage and may miss opportunities whilst they wait for BI to process the data,” said Giles Nelson, EMEA CTO for Progress Software.

Much larger numbers of respondents in France, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden and Germany said they had either implemented or planned to deploy CEP within their organisations compared to UK respondents.
