European gaming company King.com has deployed Hadoop-based data management software and services provider Cloudera’s Distribution for Apache Hadoop (CDH) to maximise insights from its big data.

With Cloudera’s Distribution for Apache Hadoop (CDH), King.com can gain insight on game usage patterns and preferences, gaming behaviours, as well as advanced gaming analytics.

Since the company relies on information from millions of gamers across multiple platforms to store game usage, advertising revenue associated with each games the new software report the data back to the company.

The analytical insight will help King.com to fine tune the gaming experience of existing games and to create new products and games.

In addition, the King.com’s games development teams and games designers will also use analytics starting from gamers’ duration on games, most popular stages and hardest levels to enhance the gaming experience.

King.com has also announced that it will deploy Cloudera Manager software tool, which sets the standard for enterprise deployment by delivering granular visibility into and control over every part of CDH, the company said.

King.com CTO Thomas Hartwig said with Hadoop, the company can manage vast amounts of data and create bespoke applications for its analytics.

"Importantly, with the Cloudera solution we have been able to plug in multiple data feeds ranging from daily currency exchange rates from the European Central bank; multiple metadata feeds; and game, advertising and platform servers log files on an hourly basis," Hartwig said.

"Cloudera has provided us with the ability to use Hadoop to manage the exponential growth in our business as well as the exponential increase in complexity."
