Kim Dotcom plans to launch encrypted email service on Mega network

Mega captured gained 3 million users, with 125m files stored during the first month of operation.

By CBR Staff Writer

Kim Dotcom is planning to launch an end-to-end encrypted email service on his newly launched web storage service, Mega, a sequel to Megaupload.

Upon its launch in January 2013, Mega claimed to have about 3 million registered users, with 125m files stored during the first month of operation.

According to the Guardian, Kim Dotcom said, "We’re going to extend this to secure email which is fully encrypted so that you won’t have to worry that a government or internet service provider will be looking at your email."

In January 2012, Dotcom was arrested following the US authorities’ shutting down of Megaupload over piracy allegations.

US prosecutors have accused the site of causing copyright possessors with losses of about $500m, while the firm produced $175m in overall revenues.

The firm had also sought for the US criminal charges against the firm to be discharged and argued that the US had no right over the service since it is based in Hong Kong.
