Isilon releases new NAS products

Claims to reduce cooling costs per TB by 50% using Hitachi 2TB disk drives

By CBR Staff Writer

Isilon Systems has released IQ 72000X and 72NL scale-out NAS products, which are 10 Petabyte single file system and single volume for primary, nearline archive and disk-to-disk backup environments.

The company said that by leveraging Hitachi’s Ultrastar A7K2000 2TB Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) drives, the IQ 72000X and 72NL double the density per rack unit while reducing the overall power and cooling costs per TB by 50%.

According to Isilon Systems, the Isilon IQ 72000X delivers 10PB of capacity and over 40 gigabytes per second of aggregate throughput from a single file system. The 72000X offers a single point of management for the entire system, providing management simplicity to reduce IT costs and staff requirements.

The Isilon IQ 72NL houses 72 TB of raw storage in a 4U chassis and scales to more than 10PB in a single file system. Featuring Isilon’s OneFS operating system and up to N+4 data protection, the 72NL delivers ease of use, scalability and reliability for nearline archive and disk-to-disk backup environments. In addition, when combined with Isilon’s SyncIQ asynchronous replication software, the 72NL delivers an offering for disk-based disaster recovery to preserve mission-critical data and ensure business continuity, the company claims.

Sam Grocott, senior director of product management at Isilon Systems, said: Do more with less’ is standard operating procedure in today’s enterprise data center where cost and energy efficiency are paramount to maximising operating leverage.

However, traditional SAN and NAS make this impossible to achieve as wasted capacity, storage sprawl and rising data centre costs are simply unavoidable. With the new 72000X and 72NL, Isilon offers a vastly different approach – get more, pay less and enable business growth.
