Iomega, an EMC company, has released a new host-powered External USB 3.0 SSD Flash Drives, which utilises the speed of USB 3.0 interface and security of built-in encryption.

The new 1.8-inch external USB 3.0 SSD flash drives features a 256-bit hardware encryption for security, bundled anti-virus and backup software, and a three-year warranty.

The company claimed the new drive boasts up to 10 times the speed of USB 2.0 drives, and performs twice as fast as a 7200 RPM SATA hard drives utilising the USB 3.0 interface.

They also offer Protection Suite which includes: v.Clone software; a 1-year subscription to Trend Micro Internet Security for the PC, or Trend Micro Smart Surfing software for Mac; QuikProtect; Roxio Retrospect Express software; and MozyHome Online Backup service.

Iomega president Jonathan Huberman said, the new external USB 3.0 SSD drives are compact, rugged portable storage devices that deliver data transfer speeds considerably faster than any standard rotating disk drives.

Iomega said that the new flash drives will be available in early November in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities.
