Intel has expanded its big data applications portfolio with the introduction of the Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software that claimed to simplify the implementation and management of the performance-based storage applications.
The new edition of Lustre software is said to be a validated and supported distribution of Lustre that comes with management tools along with a new adaptor for the Intel Distribution for Apache Hadoop.
When combined with the Intel Distribution for Apache Hadoop software, it allows Hadoop users to access Lustre data files directly, reducing time and resources.
Intel Datacentre Software Division VP and general manager, Boyd Davis, said that the enterprise users are looking for cost-effective and scalable tools to manage and access large volumes of data to turn valuable information into actionable insight.
"The addition of the Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre to our big data software portfolio will help make it easier and more affordable for businesses to move, store and process data quickly and efficiently," Davis said.
According to the company, the Intel Manager for Lustre offers a view of what is happening inside the storage system that allows IT administrators to manage tasks and reporting and also provides real-time system monitoring as well as the ability to quickly troubleshoot.
The application is an open source parallel distributed file system which stores data and allows faster access.
When integrated with the Intel Distribution for Apache Hadoop, the edition enables Hadoop to run on top of Lustre, which increases speed to access and analyse data.
The Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre is scheduled to be available in the third quarter of 2013.
