Infobright, the open source data warehousing company, and Pentaho, the commercial open source alternative for business intelligence (BI), have teamed with Sun Microsystems to offer a hardware and software system for the deployment of BI infrastructure.
The system consists of either the Sun Fire X4275 storage server or Sun Storage 7310 unified storage system, which along with Sun’s Open Network Systems offers a platform to run internet applications. It also consists of Pentaho BI Suite Enterprise Edition, which reportedly addresses the spectrum of end-user BI needs for interactive reporting, analysis and dashboards, along with data integration capabilities, and Infobright’s column-oriented analytic database. The database is integrated with Sun’s MySQL and provides a self-managing database designed for BI.
The companies claim that the combination of these products provides enterprises with a validated system for BI designed for integrating online and offline data such as web analytics and customer information to facilitate business decisions.
Graham Lovell, senior director of Open Storage at Sun, said: This solution will enable rapid deployment of applications such as new web services with greater business effectiveness and efficiency, allowing customers to expand existing analytics services, or deploy a new one.
Customers can also expect to see cost savings of up to 75 – 90% when compared to alternative market offerings, due to the use of commercial open source products from Pentaho and Infobright, and the significant cost gains made possible by Sun’s Open Storage products.
