Integrated Device Technology (IDT), a provider of mixed signal semiconductor products headquartered in Califiornia, has entered into an alliance with Micron Technology to develop PCI Express (PCIe) Solid-State Drive (SSD) technologies for the server, storage and embedded markets.

As part of this alliance, IDT and Micron will reportedly co-develop enterprise flash controllers with a PCIe host interface optimised for Micron’s flash devices and RealSSD solid-state drives. The companies claim that combining Micron’s experience in flash design and SSD development with IDT’s experience in PCIe products and memory interface products, devices will achieve lower latency, enhanced performance and new levels of storage integration.

Dean Klein, vice president of memory system development at Micron, said: “As the NAND landscape continues to evolve with application requirements and process advancements, it’s important that we ensure the interface options align with the technology.

“Micron continues to be a leader in NAND-based storage and we recognise the complications manufacturers face when implementing new – and changing – technology into their systems. Through this alliance with IDT, we’re opening the doors for our customers to easily take advantage of the latest and most innovative flash technology, with features optimised for enterprise applications.”

Micron said that its Flash SSDs, which include C200 drives and P200 drives, provide improvements in capacity, power, and performance and are viable HDD replacements for a variety of applications.
