By CBR Staff Writer

IBM has opened of its Analytics Solution Centre in Washington, to help federal agencies and other public sector organisations extract actionable insights from their data.

According to IBM, the new Analytics Solution Centre will house more than 400 professionals including researchers, professionals in software platforms, and consultants with knowledge in areas such as transportation, social services, public safety, customs and border management, revenue management, defense, logistics, healthcare and education. It also plans to add an additional 100 professionals.

The company said that the centre’s staff will work with federal agencies and other clients to apply technologies, mathematical algorithms, and modeling to optimise business decisions, processes and even business models, as well as manage risk and fraud.

IBM said that it is working with the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) in planning, programming, budgeting and execution functions within the command. The project consists of design, development and integration of a Special Operations Resource Business Information System, which speeds access to information for the command.

IBM has opened five other analytics solution centres – in New York, Dallas, Berlin, Beijing and Tokyo. Earlier this month, IBM announced a Business Analytics Centre of Competency that will support the Analytics Solutions Centres.

Anne Altman, general manager of IBM Global Public Sector, said: Just as analytics is being widely adopted in corporate America to help companies achieve their business goals, there are almost limitless opportunities for the public sector to improve efficiency, effectiveness and overall performance through analytics.

This centre will enable greater collaboration on projects that leverage data in real time to aid in decision making and enhance citizens’ lives.
