IBM has unveiled new eDiscovery software with analytics features, which it claims to help clients gain insights into their information, while allowing them to minimise legal discovery costs and improve legal strategy decisions.

According to IBM, the new features in InfoSphere eDiscovery Manager and InfoSphere eDiscovery Analyzer include enhanced early case assessment functionality, extended support for additional types of electronically stored information (ESI) content, and open application programming interfaces (APIs).

IBM claims that together, these capabilities enhance organisational agility in responding to litigation, regulatory, and freedom of information requests, while streamlining the integration of eDiscovery capabilities into comprehensive offerings.

According to IBM, the InfoSphere eDiscovery Analyzer utilises its content analytics technology to offer early case assessment capabilities, enabling organisations to build strategies before entering into legal discovery review and production cycles. Combined with other early case assessment enhancements, these new capabilities provide users with an insight into collected information and case strategy.

The company said that its eDiscovery software complements core information management capabilities and provides an in-house approach to address discovery, privacy and retention requirements.

In addition, the new offerings expand support for processing, analysing, searching, and holding multiple forms of ESI support, including the ability to export processed and analysed ESI in the EDRM XML format.

IBM said that by utilising the its Enterprise Content Management (ECM) platform and compliance-related offerings including Content Collector, Classification Module and FileNet Records Manager, the new offerings extend a foundation for managing digital information.

Reportedly, IBM’s eDiscovery software includes extended API support, providing customers and partners the opportunity to deliver customised offerings that utilise eDiscovery software capabilities as part of in-house and hosted offerings based on customers’ needs.

Utilising the new API capabilities in eDiscovery software, IBM and Business Partner PSS Systems will work together to offer joint compliance offerings that address corporate eDiscovery and legal demands of in-house counsel and link in records retention programs for defensible disposal.

The combined IBM-PSS offering will provide clients with a set of tools to manage information based on its value, comply with legal obligations for data, discover data efficiently, and routinely dispose of information at the end of its lifecycle, the company added.
