IBM completes acquisition of SoftLayer

SoftLayer will help IBM offer better security, privacy and reliability of private clouds.

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM has completed the acquisition of the US-based cloud computing infrastructure company SoftLayer Technologies for an undisclosed amount.

Following the deal, SoftLayer will join IBM’s new cloud services division, which will be led by IBM general manager James Comfort and will offer service portfolio to both IBM and SoftLayer clients, ISVs, and channel and technology partners.

James Comfort said that cloud computing offers profound and transformative change in business and government.

"With SoftLayer in IBM’s portfolio, it will be easier and faster for organisations to adopt game-changing cloud services," Comfort added.

The addition of SoftLayer claimed to allow IBM to offer better security, privacy and reliability of private clouds with the economy and speed of a public cloud.

IBM also announced that the New York based company, Flow, will stream its real-time data analytics based on IBM SmartCloud and the SoftLayer technology platform to be accessed and viewed from mobile devices.

IBM is planning to offer integrated applications based on Flow to its users in order to allow them to send and receive data from any mobile device that is integrated with enterprise data, thereby enabling the collaboration required for a Social Business.
