IBM has acquired the Ireland based analytics software provider The Now Factory for an undisclosed sum to offer better customer experiences and improve revenue opportunities.

The transaction expands IBM’s Big Data Platform and is expected to support its MobileFirst Analytics portfolio, which improves the organisations’ mobile device usage analytics to offer better customer experiences.

The move is part of IBM’s long term strategy to support the estimated growth in big data and analytics, that the estimates to generate $20bn revenue by 2015.

IBM Software Group Information Management general manager Bob Picciano said the company sees an enormous opportunity for telecommunications providers to apply The Now Factory’s software to better understand their customers in this highly competitive industry.

"In addition, the combination of IBM and The Now Factory will further extend advanced real-time big data and analytics capabilities to help clients uncover new revenue opportunities in the burgeoning mobile marketplace," Picciano said.

The Now Factory’s analytics software helps communications service providers (CSP) to provide better experiences to its customers.

With the acquisition, the Now Factory’s clients will be able to access IBM PureData System for Analytics and Hadoop-based IBM InfoSphere BigInsights for exploration and analysis of subscriber and network data.
