HP’s new application to offer contexual insight from big data to prevent security threat

HP combined the security information and event management (SIEM) capabilities of its ArcSight with the HP Autonomy IDOL content analytics engine

By CBR Staff Writer

HP has introduced new application that claimed to offer contextual information to gain actionable security intelligence from big data to assist enterprises to deal with security threats both from insiders and external attacks.

The new application combines HP’s security information and event management (SIEM) capabilities of its ArcSight with the HP Autonomy IDOL content analytics engine.

The combination would help in recognising the context, concepts, sentiments and usage patterns to expose malicious insiders or external hackers as well as quickly identify threats that have been unnoticed earlier.

HP Enterprise Security Products senior vice president and general manager Art Gilliland said that many organisations have not been able to access the critical information they need to combat potential threats.

"With the integration of cloud monitoring, content analytics and Big Data processing, HP provides clients with the context needed to effectively stop potential breaches," Gilliland said.

HP’s new ArcSight Cloud Connector Framework is aimed at facilitating organisations to collect application event and record data from cloud service providers.

Additionally, the company is integrating ArcSight with Apache’s Hadoop in a bid to accelerate the process of filtering through big data to uncover security attacks, events and trends.

The application will connect HP ArcSight’s reporting, search and correlation capabilities with Hadoop’s storage repository, offering organisations the required storage capacity to deal with petabytes of information.
