HP has announced the extension of its strategic partnership with California-based big data company Hortonworks, to integrate Hortonwork’s platform with HP’s HAVEn big data platform.

HP is supporting the partnership with $50m equity investment to help Hortonworks, which runs the Hadoop component of HP’s HAVEn big-data platform, to develop and innovate Hortonworks data solutions.

Headhoop, an open source platform developed by Yahoo, lets users store and process large amount of data.

Both the companies are also going to broaden the existing collaboration, and under the partnership HP customers can use Hortonworks Data Platform as Hadoop component of HP HAVEn.

HP Vertica general manager, Colin Mahony, said: "Hortonworks has demonstrated outstanding dedication and expertise in addressing the business and technology needs of its customers within this new era of information and data, and we look forward to partnering with the Hortonworks team to deliver innovative big data solutions to our customers."

Hortonworks CEO Rob Bearden said: "Through deep integration with Enterprise Apache Hadoop, HP customers will be able to easily build their next generation of applications with the Hortonworks Data Platform."
