HP and SanDisk are embarking on a memory partnership, in plans which may signal a move to thwart the Intel and Micron 3D XPoint memory tie-up.
The partnership will see the combining of HP’s Memristor technology with SanDisk’s non-volatile ReRAM memory technology in order to develop new technology within the Storage Class Memory (SCM) category.
This drive to create enterprise-wide solutions for Memory-driven computing will also see the two companies partner to enhance data centre infrastructure with SSDs.
The two companies are hoping the technology and expertise tie-up will result in a technology that is up to 1,000 times faster, and offers up to 1,000 times more endurance, than flash storage.
The technology is fuelled by the need to address the massive streams of data generated by the convergence of social media, security, mobility, big data analytics, cloud and the Internet of Things.
HP also hopes that the new technology will contribute to its new computing model, The Machine, which reinvents the fundamental architecture of computers.
