Hitachi Data Systems unveils data recovery offerings for VMware vSphere 4

Combines technologies from Hitachi, Brocade, Cisco, CommVault and Symantec

Hitachi Data Systems has unveiled new data protection and disaster recovery offerings for VMware vSphere 4. The new offerings combine technologies from Hitachi partners Brocade, Cisco, CommVault and Symantec with Hitachi modular and enterprise storage platforms and software, to provide organisations a way of optimising their operational efficiency and resiliency of IT environments.

Hitachi offers a portfolio of data protection products, including options for backup/restore and remote replication, for both physical and virtual environments. The data protection offerings are designed for VMware environments and centre on the Hitachi Data Protection Suite powered by CommVault and Symantec NetBackup.

Hitachi Storage, Software and Services include, the Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage 2000 family, Universal Storage Platform V, Universal Storage Platform VM, ShadowImage, in-system replication snapshot software, and data protection planning and deployment services (available through partners). VMware software includes vSphere 4, virtualisation platform including ESX, vStorage technologies and interfaces that enable block-level incremental image-, volume-, or file-level backups.

Hitachi Disaster Recovery products for VMware vSphere 4 combine Hitachi storage, replication software and services with VMware datacentre platforms, as well as data networking gear from Brocade or Cisco, to enable resilient VMware environments. Data networking hardware includes Brocade 7500 switch or DCX director with FR4-18i blade and/or Cisco MDS 9222i multi-protocol switch or MDS 9513 director with Multi-protocol services module.
