Fujitsu plans to release a scalable file system software package Fujitsu Exabyte File System (FEFS), for building file systems for x86 HPC clusters in Japan.

FEFS is a software for x86 HPC cluster systems. The software enables high-speed parallel distributed processing of large amounts of read/write transactions from the compute nodes and it achieves a throughput speed of 1 TB/s from the compute nodes to the file system, said the company.

Fujitsu said, with the new software high speeds and large-scale data processing performance and increases in the scale of cluster systems is delivered and.

The company is offering file system offerings that combine its PRIMERGY x86 servers with its ETERNUS storage system and the new FEFS. These file system offerings helps customers to meet their wide-ranging needs.

FEFS enables scalability of file systems from terabyte-scale systems to a maximum of 8 exabytes and it can be used for large scale clusters comprised of up to a million servers.

For clusters consisting of several nodes FEFS can be used as a file system offering.

The software enables the configuration of systems consisting of 10,000 storage systems with1 TB/s throughput speed and achieves metadata management performance capable of creating several files per second.

In addition, FEFS enables failovers while jobs are being executed and also it enables priority control settings for the operation of each node which guarantees I/O processing bandwidth for each node.

To prevent a particular user from monopolising I/O processing resources FEFS enables fair share features for allocating resources among the users.

For efficient use of disk capacity by monitoring and managing fine levels of file system activities the new Fujitsu file system software features directory level quota functions.
