Fujitsu develops new simulation technology for datacentres

The technology will undergo field testing and application at Fujitsu's datacentres

By CBR Staff Writer

Fujitsu has developed a simulation technology which can instantly test for changes in power consumption throughout a datacentre, where numerous servers are operated, when operating status of servers or air-conditioning equipment is altered.

Datacenters requires an integrated approach to reduce electricity consumption while considering ICT hardware, air conditioning, and other equipment.

The new simulation technology can determine thermal flows inside a building at calculation speeds over 1,000 times faster than before, the company said.

The technology completely models the ICT hardware, air conditioning and other equipment of a running datacenter, which led to an accurate simulation of the power consumption of an entire datacenter with a margin of error of less than 5%, claims the company.

The new technology enables to test the effectiveness of energy-saving measures prior to execution in a running datacentre, calculate accurate power consumption of a datacentre and reduce overall power consumption of datacentres.

The technology considers the climate conditions at a datacentre site and examine the cooling methods most suited to the location, and also enables a variety of emergency energy-conservation measures to be tested on short notice.

With the goal of making datacentres more power-efficient, Fujitsu will conduct field testing and application for the new simulation technology at its datacentres.
