Tableau Software, a visual analytics technology company, has appointed Amazon Web Services (AWS) executive, Adam Selipsky as the new president and CEO.

The co-founder and present CEO Christian Chabot will head the company as the chairman of board of directors.

Adam Selipsky has been associated with Amazon for over a decade and has been instrumental in the development of Amazon Web Services. Currently he serves as AWS marketing, sales and support vice president.

Selipsky said: “I’m incredibly excited to join the Tableau team.

Tableau has that rare combination of a passionate customer base, leading products, amazingly talented people, dedication to technology innovation, and momentum in the market.

“The company is positioned to become the new world standard in analytics. I’m honored to join the leadership team and all the great people that have fueled Tableau’s disruption of business analytics.

“As we add capabilities for our customers, deepen our enterprise presence, and expand into the cloud, our mission remains unchanged – to help people see and understand their data.”

The appointment of the new CEO is being seen as a shift in the company’s strategy to focus on large business houses and larger deals.

It is also being speculated that the company might be aiming for cloud computing in the data analytics sector.

Recently, Tableau has secured more than 300 deals up to the second quarter, with its biggest deals coming from Exxon Mobile and Kimberly-Clark. At present, the company has a global client-base of about 46,000, with 3900 being added in Q2 2016.

Chabot said: “Adam is going to take Tableau to the next level.

“His experience in making AWS the world’s leading cloud platform, his passion for servicing customers at a global scale, and his authentic team player attitude make him an extraordinary fit for Tableau.

“He is the right person to lead Tableau to the next stage of growth.”

According to Tableau, Chabot will assist the company in building its long-term strategy and customer ‘evangelism’.

Chabot noted that the company has the capability to become a standard for how people work with data and by doing so, it can grow into a international technology brand.

Apart from the CEO’s appointment, Tableau has also promoted three of its executives. Its co-founder and chief development officer Chris Stolte will now the charge as the technical advisor.

From now on Andrew Beers will lead the product development team as the chief development officer and one of its product leaders, Francois Ajenstat has been promoted as the new chief product officer, who will report to Beers.
