Security software supplier F-Secure Corp has turned on a low-cost and unlimited, secure online backup service.
The company said there is no limit on the amount of data that can be backed up using the €59.90 a year service.
Files are automatically backed up from a PC or Mac to the F-Secure Online Backup service where they are held in the company’s secure data centres.
The programme watches for any changes in files on protected computers and adds them automatically to the backup. Later on, any file can be restored from the backup automatically or manually.
Apparently a recent survey conducted by F-Secure revealed that the fear of losing valuable documents is widely shared.
Although 42% of all respondents to its survey said they had lost valuable content, most only backed up their files a couple of times a year, even less frequently or never.
Almost 40% of respondents in North America never made backups.
The company said, “All content is kept confidential by using strong encryption. You do not have to keep track of what needs to be backed up but you will receive regular e-mail reports about your backup status.”
The current language set includes Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Polish and Swedish.
