F-Secure has launched a cloud backup and sync service aimed at wireless operators. F-Secure Content Anywhere is a similar platform to Apple’s recently-launched iCloud.
The service lets users sync their data to the cloud so it can later be accessed via PCs, tablets, smartphones, laptops and even Internet-enabled TVs. The user interface will be the same across all platforms, F-Secure said, which helps with ease of use when accessing data from more than one device.
The service is aimed at operators wanting to offer and cloud-based backup and sync platform to their customers, rather than at consumers directly.
Christian Fredrikson, president and CEO of F-Secure, said the move is a natural one for the company to make and builds on its traditional security stronghold.
"Security is in our DNA but it is now so much more than just anti-virus," he said in a statement. "Our entry into the cloud business with Content Anywhere ensures we continue to meet the need of operators in an environment now characterised by uninterrupted online access and an explosion in user generated content."
Samu Konttinen, executive vice president sales and marketing at F-Secure, added that the trust customers have in their mobile operator means they will go for services such as this rather than a public offering such as Dropbox.
"The content cloud opens up a tremendous opportunity for operators. Consumers don’t want to compromise their cherished content by placing it online in the public space, but are rather seeking a service from their operator who they value as trusted, local and safe," he said.
