EMC unveils OneFS 7.0 NAS operating system

The new release will enable enterprises to manage unstructured file-based data

By CBR Staff Writer

EMC has released the new version of its Isilon scale-out NAS operating system, OneFS 7.0, which is claimed to offer improved scalability and simplicity with enterprise-grade data protection, security, interoperability and performance.

OneFS 7.0, which is coddenamed Mavericks, will enable enterprises to manage unstructured file-based data, lowering OPEX and allow customers to take advantage of the opportunities of Big Data.

It is also claimed to deliver enhanced scalability, performance, ease of management and security for the EMC Isilon storage portfolio.

With the new release, the company said that users will experience a 25% increase in single file system throughput to improve performance for large-scale enterprise applications while added caching capabilities will help in reducing latency by 50% for I/O-intensive applications.

In addition, users can also experience enhanced security for enterprise compliance and tighter integration with VMware to leverage VMware’s VAAI and VASA APIs, simplifying scale-out NAS for virtualisation.

Security features of the new release include compliance with SEC 17a-4 requirements for tamper-proof data protection and roles-based administration for separate storage and file system access.

EMC Isilon Marketing & Product Management vice president Sam Grocott said the company has architected OneFS 7.0 for easy management of the storage infrastructure.
