EMC, a provider of information infrastructure offerings, has unveiled the new version of its Data Protection Advisor software with new capabilities to further automate and expand backup and replication monitoring, alerting and reporting in private clouds.
EMC Data Protection Advisor is a management software that automatically monitors, analyses, provides alerts and reports on all aspects of the protection status of an information technology (IT) infrastructure and is suitable for a private cloud where IT is delivered as a service.
The new version, Data Protection Advisor 5.7, provides visibility into EMC and third party deduplication software, backup applications, virtual tape libraries and applications, including Microsoft Exchange 2010, and enable scanning and reporting without the need for agents to be installed on production hosts.
Data Protection Advisor collects and analyses information from various heterogeneous backup, replication, file server, database and virtualisation technologies into a single customisable interface for problem resolution and auditing, compliance, reporting and planning.
EMC has added monitoring, alerting and reporting for EMC RecoverPoint continuous data protection (CDP), continuous remote replication (CRR) and concurrent local and remote replication (CLR) on EMC Symmetrix, and CLARiiON storage systems.
The company said the new version will be available later this quarter, while it will be a free upgrade to current customers under maintenance.
