Dot Hill to launch new 24TB RAID storage arrays

Aims to leverage WD’s RE4-GP 2TB hard drives with GreenPower Technology

By CBR Staff Writer

Dot Hill Systems, a provider of entry-level and midrange storage products for OEMs and system integrators (SIs), gears up to launch 24TB RAID storage arrays with 2U footprint.

According to Dot Hill, it has completed qualification of Western Digital’s new 2TB enterprise SATA drives. Its new arrays leverage WD’s RE4-GP 2TB hard drives with GreenPower Technology.

The company claims that its 24TB RAID array outfitted with the WD RE4-GP 2TB drives demonstrates a 60% reduction in power usage over that used by 1TB drive technology.

WD RE4-GP 2TB hard drives are said to be eco-friendly, based on WD’s third-generation GreenPower Technology, and use a 500GB per platter to realise performance at energy-saving speeds.

Andy Mills, vice president of marketing, Dot Hill, said: Capacity-hungry applications that have reached a dead-end with floor space now have a new lease on life. The combination of Dot Hill 2U arrays and WD RE4-GP 2TB hard drives, which scale to 216TB total storage capacity, maximise data centre space and reduce costs on cooling and power.

WD RE4-GP 2TB drives are available with Dot Hill 2330, 2530, 2730, 2730T, and 5730 storage arrays as well as the company’s 2130 JBOD expansion arrays.
