DOT deploys Oracle BI Suite Enterprise Edition

Combines 26 data sources into a common system to improve hazardous materials tracking

By CBR Staff Writer

US Department of Transportation has deployed Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition to support its web portal for tracking intelligence on the movement of hazardous materials, integrating data from several agencies within DOT and the US Coast Guard into a single online database.

The organization is also using Oracle Public Sector Case Management Analytics and Oracle Service Analytics as well as Oracle Database.

Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition (Oracle BI Suite EE) supports the US Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Hazardous Intelligence Portal (HIP), which is under the management of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and brings together information from the Federal Aviation Administration, the Federal Railroad Administration and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration at DOT, as well as the US Department of Homeland Security.

With the Oracle platform, DOT was able to combine 26 data sources into a common system that allows officials to view the information on what is being transported, by whom and whether incidents have occurred, said Oracle.

Adrian Carter, program manager of HIP at US Department of Transportation, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, said: With Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition we are able to direct limited resources toward events posing the greatest risk to citizens and allow officials to identify repeat offenders and spot trends to prevent accidents.
