Devon County Council has implemented Citrix’s GoToWebinar to offer training and personal development to its workers. The platform has saved the Council as estimated £5,000 in six weeks.

Following budget cuts and internal restructures, the Council needed a system that would enable it to effectively communicate with its staff and to offer training courses and meetings that would educate workers on the new Council structure.

The Council estimates that the Citrix platform has saved it £100 per person in a six-week period by reducing the need to travel and other costs associated with meetings such as venue hire and refreshments.

The Council has installed Webinar Dashboard – which enables admins to monitor webinars as they are progressing. It can also monitor the interest level by alerting an admin whenever a participant checks their email or opens another browser window.

Admins can also send out reminders before a webinar is due to start.

Webinar attendees are encouraged to participate via a ‘raise hand’ button, which enables them to ask a question, and take part in polls.

Barry Wilding-Webb, senior workforce development advisor at Devon County Council, said: “The restructuring happened very quickly and we didn’t have much time to get the educational programme in place. GoToWebinar really came to the rescue, allowing us to very quickly and cost effectively respond to the situation with high quality support and advice to all affected employees.”

GoToWebinar is priced on a monthly fee and enables the Council to use plan, present, record and analyse as many webinars as they require.

“As a local government authority funded by public money, we have a duty to review our budgets and ensure we are spending wisely and making savings wherever possible. GoToWebinar’s flat-fee pricing structure allows us to manage our budget effectively and with the feature-rich tools, we can offer training and support online, without compromising on quality,” said Wilding-Webb.
