Desktone teams with NetApp to enable low-cost storage for DaaS

The joint system is expected to allow enterprises to get started with virtual desktop computing

By CBR Staff Writer

Desktone, a provider of virtual desktop hosting platform services, has teamed with NetApp, a provider of data management systems, to enable low-cost storage for Desktops as a Service.

According to Desktone, the companies’ combined system, which integrates the Desktone Virtual-D Platform with NetApp Data Ontap software, enables service providers to leverage NetApp’s virtual desktop provisioning and deduplication capabilities in their Desktops as a Service (DaaS) offerings.

The joint system is also expected to allow enterprises to get started with virtual desktop computing by leveraging their current desktop management processes and best practices, said Desktone.

Clint Battersby, chief technology officer of Desktone, said: This partnership is the culmination of close collaboration to fully leverage NetApp storage for large-scale virtual desktop hosting. It represents a quantum leap forward in solving the storage scalability, performance, and cost issues that have plagued virtual desktop deployments in the enterprise. The cost savings that service providers can now realize will enable them to offer DaaS at a very compelling price point while offering end-users a fully customizable desktop experience.
