Dell has signed a deal to be the IT hardware provider for the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
The sponsorship contract win means Dell will provide over 1,500 desktops, 200 laptops, 60 servers and storage platforms across 40 different venues being used for the Games. Dell has its Scottish headquarters in Dennistoun, on the outskirts of the city.
"Dell’s global mindset and Scottish heart make them a great fit for Glasgow 2014 and we are delighted to have a company with their expertise, based in Glasgow’s east end, to perform such an important role for us through the supply of our IT equipment," said Glasgow 2014’s chief executive David Grevemberg.
"Dell’s belief that technology can change the world, enabling people everywhere to grow and thrive, clearly has a strong synergy with the purpose of Glasgow 2014 – both in the delivery of world-class competitive sport it will showcase and the lasting economic and social legacy it will leave," Aongus Hegarty, president of Dell EMEA, said.
Dell was also the hardware provider for the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, where it provided desktops, notebooks, workstations, servers and storage technology.
For the Glasgow Games Dell will be joined by another of the partners, Atos. Atos is also the official IT systems integrator for the upcoming London Olympic Games. The company has been trhough 200,000 hours of testing to ensure all systems are ready to go in time for this Friday’s opening ceremony.
