The appliance uses Ocarina data reduction algorithms to eliminate redundant copies of data that will reduce the disk capacity requirements by about 93%.
Dell Storage vice president and general manager, Alan Atkinson said, "For those looking to augment or replace traditional tape environments with the speed and reliability of a disk-based solution, the Dell DR4100 simplifies backup and recovery while optimizing storage resources."
The scalable capacity of the device ranges from 2.7tb to 81tb of usable capacity and up to 1.2petabytes of logical capacity and it provides improved disaster recovery with many-to-one replication that supports up to 32 nodes.
Services offered by the backup device include expansion shelves for improved storage capacity, increased ‘many-to-one’ replication capabilities for disaster recovery, and additional backup software certifications for increased interoperability.
Systems supported by the Dell DR4100 include AppAssure and Quest, Symantec, CommVault, Oracle and CA.
