Dell has added new capabilities and services to its Virtual Integrated System (VIS) architecture to enable customers capitalise on the efficiencies of the Virtual Era, an era defined by the global, 24/7, data driven world.

The new capabilities continue to support heterogeneous server, storage, networking and multi-hypervisor environments to enable customers extend legacy investments and deploy best-of-breed technologies, the company said.

The VIS architecture and services enable customers extend legacy IT investments and capture the benefits of public and private cloud computing models.

The VIS architecture consists of three components, which include Dell Advanced Infrastructure Manager for simplifying data centre management, Dell VIS Self-Service Creator for shortening application deploying time, and Dell VIS Director for the virtual environment.

The Dell VIS architecture and services enable customers transition new and existing technologies to an open, cloud-like model that dynamically provisions application workloads and unifies heterogeneous compute, storage and networking assets into a common resources pool.

By working with partners like Microsoft, VMware, Citrix and BMC, the VIS architecture can deliver better utilisation of current investments and the ability to standardise and leverage existing IT processes and workflows to improve control and consistency, the company said.

Dell Enterprise Product Group senior vice president Brad Anderson said, the VIS architecture is unique in that it works with a customer’s existing architecture and their current products and investments – whether from Dell or another provider.

The new services for VIS include Dell Consulting Services for addressing key technology and business challenges, and Dell ProSupport Services to provide software-specific expertise combined with Dell’s support infrastructure to help customers quickly reach business goals.
